Verry good recipe! the cake came out really well. I like the idea of having the chocolate chips as a kind of frosting.

I made one modification to the recipe by flavouring the water with some (1tsp) of coffee..it worked well...

My family has been using this recipe since I was a little girl! It is totally fail-proof unless you accidentally omit an ingredient! The only time it ever came out wrong for us was when my daughter and her friend made it one night and forgot the sugar!!! Excellent recipe...we always called it "Crazy Quick Chocolate Cake". Excellent with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce!!

This is a really excellent recipe. We're vegetarian and it's hard to find a good eggless cake recipe. I found that this cake permits an amazing amount of latitude in what you put in and making variations. I usually use 1/4 cup vegetable oil (makes it a little drier but I'm ok with that.) It tastes great when made as mentioned, but also allows a lot of variations. Off the top of my head I can remember adding condensed milk (reducing water and sugar to compensate), a can of pineapples instead of cocoa and chocolate chips (again adjusting water and sugar) for a pineapple cake, or blueberries, or dried cranberries. I often top with chopped walnuts before putting it in the oven. This has become my base recipe for a variety of cakes!

This cake has a phenomenal texture! The flavour is great, too, I just didn't think it was quite sweet enough. I think it would have been better with more chocolate chips mixed into the batter or a frosting on top. Next time, I will mix in a large bowl - I'm a little messy & there just wasn't enough room for me to mix the batter in the baking pan.

Love this recipe and have made it many times now! (Though I do use white sugar.) My toddler has an egg allergy and dairy intollerance so I have tried numerous different chocolate cake recipies and this is by far the best. Also used this batter to make ice cream cone cupcakes for a birthday party and they were a huge hit among kids and adults. Thank you!

So sorry but this didn't work for me. Once out of the oven it was rather stodgy but edible though not very enjoyable. With 4/5ths left I thought possibly (like brownies) it might be better the next day. Big mistake. It was as hard as a rock and I had to throw out the remainder.

made in muffin cases and it cooked a treat if i did not know there were no eggs I would not have believed it really tasty and quite light

I would definitely recommend using white sugar and not brown for this recipe, the brown doesn't completely blend into the batter so it kind of floats on top.Good cake though

OMG this cake is YUMMY! Glad to have found a cake my little girl (allergic to eggs/dairy) can enjoy! I had some ripe bananas I didnt want to waste so I mashed em up and threw em in (right before the choc chips) and baked according to instructions...turned out great! thanks for posting :)
