Not sure if I got this recipe from a calendar or a coupon booklet, but I have tried these and they are good.

  1. Heat oven to 350F (175C).
  2. Grease rectangular pan, 13"x9"x2" (33cm x 23cm x 5cm).
  3. Heat unsweetened chocolate and shortening in a 3 quart (3.0 L) saucepan over low heat until melted.
  4. Remove from heat; mix in sugar, vanilla and eggs.
  5. Stir in remaining ingredients except candies. Spread in pan.
  6. Sprinkle with candies; press lightly.
  7. Bake until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan, about 30 minutes. (Do not overbake!).
  8. Cool completely; cut into bars.
