I have looked for this recipe for years! My mother made these for us for 50 years. They just came out of the oven and they are delicious! Making additions is limitless...add nuts, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, white chocolate chips, macadamia nuts, to name a few. This whole site was worth finding this recipe! So easy!

This cookie is awsome. So simple great taste. I made lots thicker and Cookie batch got all over my finger it was like napalm ouch!! But worth every bit. I added white chocolate. I will definately be making again. UPDATE: I made in pan size called for. I think I would need to take out after 30 minutes even though not completly done it will cook more while it is cooling.

Hallelujah! My Mom used to make these when I was growing up, and she called them "South Carolina Chewies." No idea where that name came from, but who cares... this IS the recipe. They're simple, delicious, and oh so chewy. The recipe should say it serves 4, because you'll eat that many :)

These are delicious butterscotch brownies! I tried looking for light brown sugar but without luck..only Demerara was about that color. So I searched on the net and used this: 1/2 cup dark brown sugar + 1/2 cup white sugar=1 cup light brown sugar x 2 = 1 (16oz)box light brown sugar. We had this for the holidays and enjoyed it. It has the right sweetness and we ate it simple without any toppings. Thank you for sharing this! Made for my baby in PAC fall 2008.

My grandmother used to always make these! I've searched and searched forna recipe like hers andnthis is about as good as it gets! I cooked the butter and brown sugar for about 5 mins until I smelled a nutty caramel flavor to given a rich butterscotch taste. My grandma used to get a crust almost like on top that I have yet to achieve. Ive even made these using splenda (for my diabetic) grandpa and he didnt know until I told him! Very good recipe!
