Brings me back to the days of carhopping at the Dog 'n Suds back in Chicago! As with pizza, you can also add sliced mushrooms, etc. (If it is not grilling season, these burgers can be broiled on broiling pan sprayed with a little nonstick spray.)
- 2 1⁄2 lbs ground chuck
- 1⁄3 cup parmesan cheese
- 1⁄4 cup onion, minced
- 1⁄4 cup green pepper, minced
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1⁄8 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1⁄8 teaspoon pepper
- 6 ounces tomato paste, 1/2 to 1 can
- 8 slices mozzarella cheese or 8 slices provolone cheese
- 8 slices tomatoes
- 8 hamburger buns, preferably grilled
- Combine meat in a large bowl with Parmesan cheese, onion, green pepper, garlic salt, pepper and oregano. If a more garlicky flavor is desired, add 1/8 teaspoons garlic powder to this mixture.
- Add 1/2 to 1 6-oz. can tomato paste to meat mixture to consistency you desire for patties. Shape into 8 patties. (If you put in too much paste, just add some bread crumbs to get the right consistency.).
- Grill over medium hot coals on one side until brown. Turn over and top with cheese slices. Cook until cheese is melted.
- Serve with tomato slices on hamburger buns with dill pickle spears and potato chips or fries. (We like to grill the buns first.).
I fixed this this weekend and it was really good! I think it needed a little more seasoning instead of just the tomato paste, maybe instead of the paste, use regular pizza sauce and maybe sprinkle in some H.V. ranch dressing mix. Overall, it was a really great and easy burger! I did mine on a sheet pan in the oven to save some time! Turned out really great and held together good! Thanks for sharing!
I made this as directed the first night and they were good. I had leftover meat so the next night I took some French bread, sliced it in half and spread pizza sauce on each half. I then browned the meat mixture and spooned it on top of the sauce. After that I put on some diced bell pepper and onion and then topped with sliced provolone and baked at 400 for about 20 minutes. Oh my goodness was it tasty. I think I will continue to use this recipe but instead of forming into patties, I will continue to brown the mixture and serve open faced.
I followed the recipe as written other then I used minced dried onions. These were really good and easy to make. They had a really good taste too. Hubby said next time he would like mushrooms on them. I used mozzarella cheese to top the burgers. I used a whole can of tomato paste but I might cut it back just a bit next time because they did fall apart a bit when flipping. We will be making these again!
