Dixie Green Beans and Potatoes

Traditional southern method for cooking green beans. Great way to use leftover ham. Can substitute smoked ham hocks or bacon. Season with salt according to saltiness of meat.

I too took the liberty of cooking this in the crockpot because the day home that I planned suddenly disappeared and my plan to make this was jeopardized. I cooked it for 10 hours on low (I have an old crockpot). It was so very good and the flavors and seasonings were just right.   1. In a medium hot pot cook ham and onion until it begins to brown (about 4-5 minutes).
  2. Add water and stir scraping brown bits off bottom of pan.
  3. Add green beans, potatoes, and seasonings.
  4. Cover and cook 25-35 minutes until fork tender.
