      I too took the liberty of cooking this in the crockpot because the day home that I planned suddenly disappeared and my plan to make this was jeopardized. I cooked it for 10 hours on low (I have an old crockpot). It was so very good and the flavors and seasonings were just right. We really enjoyed it and I'll be making this again following your directions. Thanks Vicki in CT!!

      This was great. Just like mama used to make. I cooked my beans in the crock pot and then added the onion and spices afterward. Flavor was great.

      Vicki, this reminds me of the recipe my 'southern mama' use to make. . . very good. The next time believe I'll try browning the onions with diced bacon rather than the ham. Thanks for sharing
