This is my grandmother's depression era syrup cake. It is best made a couple of days in advance, so that it can "age".

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Cream crisco, sugar and eggs, add sorgum. Mix well baking soda and buttermilk together. Alternate flour and buttermilk/ baking soda mix. Beat together well.
  2. Best baked in a bundt pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes to an hour. Watch cake closely, it will rise very high and then fall. When it falls it is done, remove from oven and cool in pan.
