This is the way I grew up eating grits in the northwest and we often ate them for breakfast! It's simple and very tasty!

  1. Mix grits, salt, and water in bowl and cook in microwave on high for 2.5-3 minutes, until nice and thick. Stir occasionally.
  2. Stir in butter and brown sugar, add more or less to taste. (can also add some milk to thin them out a little and make creamier if you prefer, which also helps cool them down).
  3. Enjoy!

Had these for breakfast today. Very easy and tasty. Cooked the grits on the stove... just didn't seem right to make them in the microwave! ;-) Used 1/4 c br sugar and even then was very sweet. Next time I will cut back a little more. Am also going to try to sub Splenda and just a touch of molasses next time to cut back on sugar. Thank you for sharing your recipe! UPDATE: Made this again, but doubled the recipe and left the brown sugar the same... Added 4 oz cream cheese. Was heavenly with those changes. My 5 yo (tomorrow) added some chcolate syrup to his, and the 16 mo ate half of mine! Will make this again with my changes.

You're right, these ARE delicious! Super simple to make, I used 1/4 cup brown sugar and they were nice and sweet. Mine took about an extra minute or so in the microwave b/c I have veeery low wattage. I really liked the salty butter mixed with the sugar! I ate these for breakfast, but they would be a nice little snack/dessert anytime!
