Delicious Caramel Squares

ingredients
- 1⁄2 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup sifted flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 1⁄3 cups nuts
directions
- Set oven at 350 degrees.
- Grease a 9 X 9 Pan.
- Put butter and sugar in saucepan and stir over heat until very smooth.
- Cool.
- Add unbeaten egg.
- Sift in flour, baking powder and salt.
- Add vanilla.
- Mix well until smooth.
- Bake 30-40 minutes.
- Cut into squares.
- Makes about 36 small cookie squares.

Love these! I made them exactly as stated except that I did not add the nuts. I think they would be great with nuts, but wasn't sure if I could get my kids to eat them. They turned out very chewy, not cake-like at all. These are so simple and I WILL be making these again. These would be great warmed up with a scoop of ice cream on the side.
