It's great! I was looking for some kind of cake to make for my mom's birthday and this one sounded delicious. I made it with Easy Mousse Cake Filling - Any Flavor (215952) and I frosted it with buttermilk and put sugared rose petals on it. The rose petals existed simply to give me a new toy to play with, but they looked kind of cute too. :) Great cake, though I did have problems with sticking. I did the grease the pan, cut a piece of parchment paper to fit, grease, flour. The sides still stuck some though. It's very tasty, and the frosting covered it up. :)

This is a great recipe. It does not take much more time than a box cake. I used 1 tablespoon vinegar and non-fat soy milk to make the buttermilk. I also lined the pan with wax paper and sprayed oil on it. Next time I might replace half of the flour with whole wheat flour and perhaps up the buttermilk to 1 and 1/4 cup. Thanks for a great recipe. I told my 13 year old daughter I will make up the dry mix, label, and put in freezer for her if she wants to make a cake by herself and it would be like a box mix.

I have made this cake several times. My family, who consist of "Chocoholics", love it! Very moist. Lennie, I printed this out 10 years ago when you posted it. I am now diabetic so I converted it using wheat pastry flour, a spenda/whey low mix, etc. It is still the most awesome cake!

Delicious, moist dark chocolate cake. I only made a few small changes: Instead of 2 cups of white sugar, I used 1 cup white and 1 cup light brown. I also used Hershey's Special Dark cocoa, which made it super dark and beautiful. Great recipe..thank you!

This is Ina's recipe. It can be found on the Food Network site as "Beatty's Chocolate Cake." She has a great recipe for chocolate frosting to go with the cake! Yum

Good grief, this was insanely good! The key was keeping it in the refrigerator, so that your slice was always chilled. In combo w/ #44051 (Caramel Icing), I'd have to say this was one of the best cakes I've ever had for complimentary flavors. I might cut back on the salt a bit next time, as I did notice it when the having a bite of cake by itself, but we've gone through 2 - 9x9 cakes in 2 weeks and there are only two of us...which is shameful but a big compliment to this recipe. ;)

The reviewers were all right. This is a fabulous cake. It is so easy to make with great results. I used "Kittencal's Chocolate Frosting/Icing" for the frosting. If you are looking for an easy to prepare, great tasting cake, this is it. Thanks for the recipe.
