I received this recipe about 30 years ago at a cake decorating class. Makes a very creamy, workable icing. I don't remember the volume it makes, so disregard yield.

Thanks for sharing! I have used this recipe for years for decorating cakes, but lost all of my "favorite" recipes in a tornado that hit three years ago!! I have used other recipes since then, but this is the original one I got when I took cake decorating classes about 37 years ago! My family all will be so happy to have their "real" icing on their birthday cakes again.
- 2 lbs powdered sugar
- 1 cup crisco vegetable shortening (no substitutes)
- 1⁄2 cup cool tap water
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons butter flavoring
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
