    evelyn/athens's Note:

From Healing Secrets of the Seasons: Recipes and Remedies That Soothe, De-stress, and Energize Throughout the Year, by Judith Benn Hurley, and found at splendidtable.com. This potent potion helps break up congestion in the lungs. It's a good alternative cough syrup for people who react to the artificial colors and flavors in some commercial syrups. Be advised, honey is not recommended for children under the age of two.

Evelyn,This REALLY works GREAT for coughs & croup. I used this for years as a cough syrup. My DD had the croup a lot when she was small. We didn't have cough syrups back then. I would make it using SUGAR instead of honey, just let the onion & sugar set until a syrup froms. I would give my DD the straight syrup. Works GREAT! Evelyn thanks for posting this recipe!
