Dawa

"This comes from the book Around the World in 80 Bars, and the recipe comes from "The Carnivore" in Nairobi, Kenya. The Carnivore is a nyama choma (barbecued meat) restaurant, and is licensed to serve gazelle, giraffe, and zebra. In Swahali, Dawa means "somewhere between a medicine and a magic potion'. Traditionally, this drink is served with a small wooden masher so that you can release more lime juice and adjust the flavor of your Dawa to suit your liking. This is a pretty strong tasting drink, so I generally release more lime juice!!"

  1. Simple to make, delicious to imbibe. I had one, wanted another one, but needed to make dinner, so I made the second one lighter by topping it off with some lime-flavored seltzer - also very good and refreshing.

  2. I made this lovely creation after dinner last night and enjoyed every sip. I used my vanilla vodka and just followed the directions. No way you could go wrong here, it's refreshing and delicious.

  3. What a wonderful drink on such a hot August day here in Florida!! I just made one of these and followed it as written. Very easy with ingredients I always have on hand. I followed the advice of mary winecoff and didn't add the honey until the end, lol, worked perfectly!! Thanks for sharing the recipe. Made for WTTM tag game!!

  5. I have to laugh at myself because I added the ice and it made the honey freeze up. So next time (right after the first one) I made one and stirred everything together before adding the ice. Skipped the sugar (didn't need it). Great refreshing drink. Made for ZWT7
