there are many variations of this drink. flavor this base with the fruit of your choice but the lime is essential. Originally from Havana's La Florida restaurant -- I had one there!
- 1 1⁄2-2 ounces light rum
- 1⁄2 lime, juice of
- 1 dash sugar syrup or 1 teaspoon powdered sugar
- 1 dash maraschino juice (optional)
- Mix with ice in a blender.
- Serve in dressy champagne-like glass with a straw.
i just used a dash of powdered sugar, mojito rum and fresh lime juice, served it over ice with a wedge of lime. very refreshing and tasty
Just for fun, I made daiquiri's--virgin for my son and with rum for DH and I. One thing I found out is that the rum helps the drink become that slushy drink I love so it is harder to make it plain. But it was fun and put us all in the summer mood. A nice basic recipe.
A nice glass to welcome guests with at a dinner party... refreshingly different from the blended milkshake-like concoctions I'm used to associating with the word Daiquiri. Also tried it shaken and on the rocks, very nice as well.
