ingredients
- 8 slice whole wheat bread (any kind will do, but a bakery bread is better)
- 226.79 g deli ham or 226.79 g turkey, thinly sliced and coarsely chopped
- 226.79 g cheese (any kind, shredded or thinly sliced )
- 1 large sweet onion, minced
- 1 medium green pepper, minced
- 14.79 ml cumin
- 14.79 ml dried dill
- 14.79 ml garlic, minced
- 29.58 ml olive oil
- 59.16 ml Dijon mustard
- 59.16 ml Miracle Whip
- 59.16 ml light margarine
- 29.58 ml garlic powder
directions
- Put the oil, minced green peppers, onions, garlic, cumin and dill into a fry pan and fry over medium heat until peppers and onions are cooked through. Keep stirring.
- Take the pepper and onion mixture out of the pan and set aside.
- Fry the ham in the pan until just slightly browned. Remove from heat.
- Spread the Dijon mustard onto one side of your bread.
- Put 1/4 of the onion/green pepper mixture onto the slice of bread.
- Put 1/4 of the ham on top of the onion/pepper mixture.
- Put 1/4 of the cheese on top of the ham.
- Spread the Miracle Whip on the other slice of bread and place on top of the cheese.
- Now spread the margarine with the garlic powder on it (or you can use garlic butter) on top of the sandwich.
- Turn on the fry pan to medium heat and carefully flip the sandwich, margarine side down into the pan.
- Put another fry pan on top of this sandwich to weight it down. (You can use a griddle with a lid on it like a panini grill instead).
- After a few minutes, flip over the sandwich and spread some more margarine w/garlic powder on the bread and replace the pan.
- Fry for a few minutes on medium heat until the bread is brown.
- Remove from heat, cut into slices, and serve warm with fresh fruit.

This sounds like an okay sandwich. I just really hate it when people call a recipe something that is so far from the original, it's no longer recognizable. I don't know what you think a Cuban sandwich is, but it's nothing like this. In fact, a child would enjoy a true cuban much more than this with all the onions, peppers, and what-not you've thrown in there. Sorry to be picky, but as a half-Cuban, I don't want people to be misinformed on what, traditionally, is an amazing sandwich.
