My Czech grandmother used to make these and I finally found the recipe in Cherished Czech Recipes.
- 236.59 ml sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 baking chocolate squares, melted (1 ounce each)
- 59.14 ml butter
- 118.29 ml flour
- 4.92 ml vanilla
- 236.59 ml pecans, chopped
- Mix all ingredients until smooth.
- With a teaspoon, make little heaps (walnut-sized) on a floured and greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 300 degrees for 6-8 minutes.
- You can also place 1/2 of a pecan on each cookie while still warm.
These were very good cookies and my boys ate every one up! I agree with the other reviewers that these are very delicate cookies and must be cooled before removing from the baking sheet and I used a thin spatula to remove. I cooked them for 8 minutes. Made for ZWT4.
I took these cookies to an International Party hosted by people I didn't know. Everyone thought that the host, the resident gourmand, had made the cookies! They are delicious, but a little expensive to make. Next time I will try using cocoa powder and butter in lieu of the chocolate squares and I may use walnuts, less pricey than pecans.
These cookies taste a little like brownies. They are a bit crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. A few hints to help. Make sure to use unsweetened baking chocolate -anything more would be too sweet. Increase the temp. Cook them at 325 or 350. I also needed to cook them longer even with the increased temp. Leave them on the cookie sheet for about 3 minutes to cool. Trying to take them off any sooner results in broken up cookie crumbles. I also found using a thin metal spatula helped to keep the cookie together- my thick plastic one also resulted in broken cookies. This was made by a Jefe for ZWT 4.
