Great recipe for both people on and and not on a budget! Good food is good food whether you're broke or not! And I loved the story that came with it. Thanks for posting.

Excellent cold-weather comfort food.

This was really good and the beef turned out very tender (I used a cheap roast that I bought on sale). It's hard to believe that the sauce is mostly tomato soup, it was very tasty. (I did use the Vermouth and it definitely adds flavor).

I would give this 5 stars for the comments alone! Love your writing style, TBG! Now to get to the review ..... I made this recipe exactly as posted (including the vermouth) because I had everything on hand. I let this simmer for 3 hours (because DH wanted to finish watching the Packer game) and the meat was "cut-it-with-your-fork" as titled. Served this with steamed rice (to soak up the tasty sauce) and cauliflower casserole. This one goes in my "keeper" book. Thanks, TBG!!
