From Culinary in the Desert. This goes with the Caramel Apple Bars I posted. Enjoy!
Make and share this Culinary in the Desert's Homemade Caramel recipe from Food.com.
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1⁄4 cup light corn syrup
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon good quality vanilla extract
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- Mix all of the above ingredients into a 2 quart saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring constantly, until it reaches soft-ball stage (230-234°F). Remove and gently pour your 1 cup over the apple mixture.
- This recipes makes more than you will use so pour the rest into a 8X8 pan lined with foil and let cool. Cut into squares and you have your own homemade caramel squares!
My husband LOVES candy but we try not to keep it around so he used this recipe and made his own Twix bars. This caramel is fantastic! I watched him make it and he is a beginner candy maker but seemed to have no problem with this recipe. My only small issue is I thought it was too sweet (it hurt our teeth a little haha) so next time we will reduce the sugar slightly. Hopefully that will not compromise this great recipe. Thank you!
