Ahhh, this is it! My mom used to make this when I was a kid. It was one of those recipes I never got from her. This is my first year growing cucumbers and I've got more than I can handle. I made this salad according to the recipe and this is it. Takes me back for sure. Thanks so much.
I have used this recipe before. The only change I made was cider vinegar. More like my mom made.
Splendid! I made exactly as written the first time. The second and subsequent times I reduced the water to 1 cup, used white wine vinegar and added 1 tsp of evoo. My family loves it!
great recipe, my mom made this often when I was younger. It's perfect. Try it.
There are salads and there are refrigerator pickles. This makes the latter. I was in the mood for a salad, and I'm not a fan of soggy cucumbers, so I tried it without water and soaking. This made a strong dressing, but that wouldn't have been unpleasant except for the TON AND A HALF OF PEPPER! I wonder if it's a misprint, if it's supposed to say a teaspoon, because I found it enough pepper to want to gag. I think the sugar-to-vinegar ratio is okay, but it was hard to tell anything in that black mess. This makes an intensely peppery refrigerated pickle, and I had been hoping for a nice cucumber salad.
I made three jar and my daughter enjoy them . she asking me when I'm going to make the next one.
Most of my 100% Finnish family moved to Oregon in the 50's before I was born Only one aunt/uncle/2 Cousins, and Grandma remained in Finlayson, Minnesota... I remember this from my childhood visits on summer trips back to the Midwest THANK YOU !!!!!
Delightful! I work full time so coming up with an idea for a midweek potluck is a challenge. It's that time of year again when table pickles are a joy and a delight! I was skeptical of the sugar but I like it and the pepper gives it just the right flavor. This one is going in my recipe box!
Meh. Not enough vinegar. Very bland. Won't make again.
