Crunchy Tossed Salad

ingredients
- 1⁄2 cup vegetable oil
- 1⁄4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 head iceberg lettuce, sliced
- 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1⁄3 cup sliced almonds, toasted
- 1⁄4 cup sesame seeds, toasted
- 4 green onions, sliced
- 3⁄4 cup chow mein noodles
directions
- Combine the first five ingredients in a container with tight fitting lid and shake well.
- In a large bowl, add lettuce and then sprinkle remaining ingredients on top. Add the amount of dressing to your taste and toss the salad.
- Note: To toast almonds put on cookie sheet and put in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 2 mins, then add sesame seeds on sheet. Watch closely, so not to over toast and burn. Cook another 2 mins and check for doneness, if golden remove from oven and cool.

Got to admit that this proved to be a bigger hit than anticipated!!<br/>I knew that DH and I were going to love this salad....but I couldn't quite believe how much The Peskies enjoyed it!!<br/>DS (aged 8) likes salad, but won't touch dressing or suchlike - DD ( aged 6 ), dislikes lettuce and salad but eats it under sufferance if threatened or bribed.<br/>Both of them actually helped themselves to a second, and in one case a third helping...now that's an endorsement!!<br/>A big family thumbs up!!<br/>Made for PRMR.

We enjoyed this refreshing and flavoursome salad with diner524's sensationally delicious Recipe #370164. Loved the textural variation provided by the inclusion of nuts and seeds and the great blend of flavours. I'd halved the recipe for two, and what we didn't eat with our Recipe #370164, we enjoyed next day in an omelet. In making this, I reduced both the salt and sugar (personal taste preferences). Thanks for sharing this yummy recipe which would complement BBQd meats really well. Made for PRMR.

Wonderful! Full of flavor! There are more superlatives, but, JUST TRY THIS SALAD! The only change I made was to use honey in place of the sugar, as I was afraid the sugar wouldn't dissolve. Crispy, crunchy and tasty, I'll keep this in my go-to book! I think it would be awesome with some crispy chicken tenders on top, for a quick dinner. Thanks so much for sharing, diner!

I don't like to cook things that require going to specialized grocery stores. I subscribe to several cooking magazines, that usually, require everyday on-hand ingredients. <br /><br />I am not very fond of most seafood, but do enjoy lobster, grilled shrimp and chilean sea bass. I won't cook anything with rosemary or curry, as I really don't like either herbs' flavor. And now from trying recipes, I found that I don't like dijon mustard, but love vinegar and mustard, not sure why I don't like the taste of dijon mustard.</p>
