These turned out excellent! My English boyfriend was missing crumpets and these satisfied his craving. I wasn't able to get the traditional bubbles on the top, but nobody else mentioned that, so I'm wondering if that was just me. I'll definitely make these again!
I made these yesterday and followed the recipe exactly with splendid results. Very nice texture with just a hint of sweetness. This was a first for me to even have a crumpet but you can bet I'll be making this recipe a LOT!
I come from London where you can buy crumpets in any shop and now live in a tiny town in South Africa where you can't find them anywhere, so thank you Mysterygirl you have made me very happy
This was the first time that I ever tried to make crumpets....I just loved them...They tasted fabulous and were pretty quick and easy to make. I did add 1 tsp of baking soda, as per Kittens review. It worked great. I will definitely be making these again. I froze the leftovers and we had them a few days later with sour cherry jam. I think they tasted pretty wonderful. I can't remember the last time I made crumpets so it must have been a long time ago, I enjoyed these although I think I would have prefered them to be a bit more puffy so I might increase the baking soda up a little next time! these are wonderful toasted, thanks MG!...Kitten:)
