A great sandwich! I used whole grain bread, a nice smoked ham and gruyere cheese. I did add the dijon mustard and I heartily recommend the addition, it added a lot of favor. The oven method of toasting the sandwich was perfect, it freed me to do other things and the sandwich came out a perfectly toasted light brown. I cooked it at 350F for about 15 mins and I did flip it over once while it was cooking. I'll make this many times!
No offense but this is not a Croque Monsieur. The actual recipe is a very delicious and rich sandwich as it is covered in a bechamel sauce. Try it with top notch ham and cheese on a brioche bread covered in bechamel and you will find bliss.

Boy this was just great! I used bacon instead of ham and loved the method of cooking in the oven - so easy. I did add the fried egg to make a croque madam and really enjoyed - thanks for sharing the recipe! Made for ZWT8, Chefs gone WILD!

Delicious! I added sliced pickles, and used a honey dijon mustard. I really like that you can bake as many as you want at once, so everyone gets a warm sandwich. I baked 4, and it took 15 minutes for them to brown. For ZWT8
Very good! Simple sandwich, and was perfect with a side of tomato and zucchini tian. I made ours into croque madams, with ham, swiss, butter and and a fried egg on top. Very very yummy. Next time I made this, I think I'll make it with a bechamel sauce in place of the butter, thanks for posting! Made for ZWT8.
