Crock Pot Spaghetti Sauce

"I love this spaghetti sauce, I make it monthly and then freeze into individual dinner size portions. Originally from Quick Cooking, I think. *In my house a serving is 1/2 cup, and I freeze my sauce in 2 cups containers."

 1. This is a very good basic spaghetti sauce recipe, but whenever you have sugar in a recipe with tomatoes, try finely chopping a few carrots with your food processor or blender. Amounts can be adjusted to taste.

A good way to eliminate some sugar from your diet, AND get a few extra veggies into your family!

 2. A very good tasting spaghetti sauce. I got four large portions out of it. I only added 3 tablespoons of sugar which was plenty for our family. I used oregano instead of marjoram as I prefer it, but followed the recipe except for those two changes. It makes a rich, hearty sauce. Thanks, Carole in Orlando

 3. Loved it! Wow - what can I say?So hearty and chunky; we ate 1/3rd the first night, and last week I took the second 1/3rd out of the freezer and warmed in my smaller crockpot all afternoon and it was even better than the first time we ate it! I had to do some spice improvising (oregano and extra basil in lieu of Italian seasoning which I don't stock; plus a little more b/c I used reg. diced tomatoes, not italian-style) My youngest DS has diabetes and all the protein in this sauce makes it a much healthier meal in terms of blood sugar control than simple pasta and red sauce.

 4. We absolutely loved this sauce! My 15 yr old eats a half pound of pasta everyday after school and this is his favorite recipe now! I did switch up the ground beef for ground turkey and I didn't have any marjoram so I added extra italian seasoning. Also cut back just a bit on sugar as others have done. Great sauce recipe, thanks Lysa! Made for PAC Fall 2009.

 5. My DH had this prepared when I got home from broker class. He did make some modifications. He left out the sugar. Used one can of spicy diced tomatoes for heat along with the 2 regular cans of tomatoes and left out the tomato paste. Easy way to make homemade spaghetti. Thanks Lysa.
