This was really very delicious. Changes: I only used 5 potatoes, 1 onion, and cream of cheddar cheese soup. I cooked it on high for about 4 hours, and it came out awesome!
This tasted yummy, but my potatoes turned a yucky grey color. Not the recipe's fault. My DD helped to layer this in the crock. Thanks and I will try again.
I had a whole bone in ham that I got for free and a potluck to go to. This was a huge hit. Thanks so much. I have a friend that is gluten free so I used progresso mushroom soup. I should have taken into account that the soup is thinner than the condensed soup. It was on the runny side for me but no one else cared. I think if I made it again gluten free, I will cook for a few hours with the lid off until it is more the consistency to my liking. Thanks!
Yummmmmmmm! My DBF gobbled this right up. So easy and cheap. Finally done with our leftover ham. We came back from a bike ride and dinner was ready in time for opening day. Give it s shot you won't regret it.
Too many potatoes, not enough sauce. The sauce was a little bland too. I ended up adding a can of cream of chicken soup to the leftovers and throwing them in the oven the next day to give them more flavor and sauce.
I have to say this WAS a little bland, BUT you can tell that just from READING the recipe ingredients. I did not (never do) have cream of ANYTHING soup, I make my own from a bechamel sauce, I added the onion and cooked it a bit with the white sauce, also added a 1/4 dried chives, and 3 tblspn of chicken broth dried granules to it, I made 5 cups worth of sauce. Also a lot of black pepper, some salt and about four dashes of tobasco sauce. I layered the ingredients with the sauce as well, then poured the rest over the top. It was marvelous! Every ate it, and there were no leftovers/ I used 8 smaller russett potatoes
Love the idea of using cheddar cheese soup since my son doesn't care a bit for mushrooms. When I use cream of mushroom (healthy choice), I will usually put it through the blender. I have this in the crock pot for tonight with turkey bacon instead of ham...no ham in the house right now. I it goes over well with my family, I'm going to make some more tonight for the boy scout "banquet tomorrow"...hot dogs...banquet??? Haha! Thanks!
Very Good! I used a mandoline for the potatoes and onion and it cut the prep time down a lot. I used red. fat cheese and red. sodium soup, I also cooked on low for 6 hours and it came out wonderful. Thank you for sharing this!
Tasted alright, but there are better scalloped potato recipes out there. 2 onions was way too much. By the time the potatoes were done, there was a lot of water on the bottom and none of the potatoes on top had any flavor. The cheese kind of just disappeared into the water too. I used pepperjack and threw in some jalapenos and cayenne pepper to give it some kick. Will not make using this recipe again.
This was ok. I chopped up the ham and during the cooking period it shrunk to bit pieces. The cheese kind of disappeared with the water from the potatoes and there seemed to be a LOT of onions. Make sure you add pepper to the layers, it will add extra flavor. I added frozen peas and canned mushrooms to give it something extra. It's not a bad recipe for an easy crock pot recipe, it's just a little bland.
