  1. I tried this recipe because my family loves round steak and the crockpot is nice on hot summer days. I thought this tasted really good but my husband and daughter did not care for it, they said it was too bland.

  2. This turned out wonderful. It was absolutely delicious! I did as you suggested, Clairissa, and served it with mashed potatoes. Nothing was left. I will definitely be doing this again and again. Thanks so much.

  3. This is one of my favorite dinners to make! I cut the round steak into bite size pieces, and use one can Golden Mushroom Soup, and one can Cream of Mushroom with Garlic. Then we just spoon the meat and gravy directly over mashed potatoes. Served with a vegetable and rolls, this is my ultimate comfort food! Thanks for a fabulous recipe!

  4. Very good, fork-tender round steaks. I thought I had onion soup mix, but when I went to make this I was out, so, I subbed a packed of brown gravy mix and several teaspoons of dried minced onion. The result was very tasty.

  5. I never know what to do with round steak - this gives me a great alternative. Instead of using mushrooms from a jar, I used whole, fresh mushrooms. I served it with mashed potatoes.

Tweaks

  1. I have used this basic recipe for pot roast for years. I started using red wine for the water & 1/2 of the dry soup. I add mushrooms an hour or so before finishing if I have them. Good in the oven as well.

  2. What we tweaked was: we used fresh mushrooms that I had sauteed and froze, 1/2 cup instead of the canned mushrooms; used about 4 pounds or so of round steak, added 3 medium onions roughly chopped, about 10 carrots peeled and cut into 1 inch chunks, about 6 large ribs of celery cut into 1 inch chunks, and because I had more meat, and added veggies, I also added extra packet of onion soup mix, an extra 1/4 cup of water, and an extra can of cream of mushroom soup. We cooked it on high for about 4 hours and on low for about 4 hours because of all the added ingredients. Next time, I will not add the extra water so it will be a little thicker. We ate it over rice. Will definitely make it again, it was SO GOOD!

  3. It seems a bit overcooked, even at 4 hour minimum. Bummer. Sauce/gravy is great. Will serve over mashed potatoes.

  4. Excellent recipe. Only changes I made was to use fresh mushrooms instead of tinned or bottled and, as I didn't have the soup mix, substituted a packet of mushroom and garlic sauce mix. Fantastic - will use this again and again always using fresh mushrooms though.

  5. I didn't actually get to try this...I stuck it in the crockpot and went to work..and when I got back...there wasn't any left..I'm cooking it again today..but I used a can of cream of chicken and a can of tomato soup instead of the mushroom soups...smells good. I'll use and variate this recipe. Thanks ^-^
