Crock Pot Roast Beef With Gravy

"I have been making this for years. It is easy to put together and tastes yummy! Some times I throw veggies in the crock pot also for an all in one dinner."

  1. My husband was wanting to replicate a recipe his grandmother used to make. I found this recipe that seemed to match his description. He loved it! We will be making this again. I made only a couple of changes. I browned the meat in a non-stick skillet before putting it in the crockpot, and instead of adding 2 cups of water, I added 1 cup of water and 1 cup of low sodium beef broth. Delicious!

  2. First let me say I do not like roast beef! But this was ok. I made it because my DH is a meat and potatoes man. He absolutely loved it! My DD did too. So, after 30 years of trying to make a roast they would eat, here it is! Thanks, for posting.

  3. I made this recipe on 12/16/09 for mine and SO's dinner. I used the amout of flour called for, but changed how it was used. I took some of the flour and coated meat as the recipe instructed then sprinkled some seasoned salt and pepper over the meat, browned the meat in a bit of shortening before placing in the crockpot. And mixed the remaining flour with both mixes and water, poured over the meat and let the crockpot do it's thing :). After about 7 1/2 hours the roast was done, but the gravy wasn't as thick as we liked it. So, the juices were removed to a saucepan, added a bit of flour, and stirred over a low heat till the right thickness was reached.I served this with mashed potatoes and carrots. This will be made again. Thank you for posting and, " Keep Smiling :) "

  4. This made the kitchen smell great, and it is so easy. Only change I made was to sub dried onion flakes and low-sodium beef bouillon for the onion soup mix. The gravy is delicious!

  5. This was so good. Makes a wonderful, rich, flavorful gravy that hardly tastes as though it came from a couple of packets. Next time I'll double it, especially seeing that I can't resist tasting during the required cooking time. (It could explain why my roast wasn't quite as tender as I would've liked.) But I also may have used a cheaper cut of beef. A definite keeper, though!

Tweaks

  1. Delicious roast beef and gravy. I floured the roast and browned it lightly in Crisco shortening, used recipe #110331 for the Onion Soup Mix, and recipe #149886 for the Gravy Mix. Instead of water I used potato water I had saved from making mashed potatoes another day. I mixed the soup mix, gravy mix, and liquid in a 4-cup measuring cup for easy pouring. I also added 2 carrots, cut into small chunks, and one chopped sweet onion. Served with mashed potatoes and crusty bread and butter to sop up the gravy, and a side of cole slaw.

I have two boys Eddie 18 and Brandon 10. I have been with my hubby for 16 years. I work full time outside the home and my boys keep me busy at home. Eddie is a singer and base guitar player in a band and Brandon races go karts. We also have a Collie/Beagle mix named Sugar. I love to cook and try out new recipes. My family likes it too but at times ask my to make just "normal" food, as I forget sometimes to make my own TNT recipes. I cook a lot with with my crock pot as it makes life a lot easier for me. I am always on the look out for new crock pot recipes. I'm not much of a baker as I don't like to measure things. I collect cookbooks and recipes in general. I usually start with a recipe and tweak to my families liking. My Rating System: 5 Stars = The whole family enjoyed the dish and it will be added to my TNT cookbook. Book #220911. These recipes will be made again and again. 4 Stars = Recipe was good, but needed some modifications or it was good but not something we would want on a regular basis. Also goes into my TNT-4 star recipe cookbook. Book #220912 3 Stars = It was edible, but won't be made again. 2 Stars = Needs some kind of major adjustments. 1 Stars = Inedible, didn't work, waste of ingredients.
