Questions & Replies

  1. Do you drain the liquid from the can of clams? Or dumped the it all in?

  2. I found this recipe through a google search for crock pot and clam chowder. While the reviewers are happy, i have not yet decided to try this recipe, because the difference between 2 cups of half-n-half and 2 cups of milk is very different and will produce very different results. If the author can provide suggestions as to which to use and why, it would help not only my decision making process, but of others as well.

Reviews

  1. Fabulous! I added a cup of chopped celery (a standard for me), 1 clove of garlic, 1 T butter, and a couple of extra potatoes. Lovely, thick, rich and tasty!!

  2. We really liked this but thought it could have benefited from less liquid and more seasoning, I'm sure that's because we don't eat pork so there was no seasoning from the bacon/salt pork. The first time around I used red potatoes, 2 12 ounce cans of baby clams, and a half a can of cream of chicken soup at the end to try to thicken it up a bit. I'm making it again today and have cut out half-cup of water, am using russet potatoes, a dash of salt & pepper, and a dash or two of liquid smoke to help with the smokey flavor the bacon would have provided, if we had used it. By cutting the liquid I hope to get a thicker chowder. All-in-all this was a GREAT recipe. Thanks!

  3. Good easy recipe thank you. I used fresh clams and their juice plus bottle clam juice. Nothing Like fresh clams. Canned taste nothing like clams. Also added carrots, celery and mushrooms. Family loved it.

  4. I was craving clam chowder. Made this following the recipe. It was good, just not as thick and creamy as I am used to. I did try to add an additional tablespoon of corn starch, but it didn't make much difference. Will try and tweak it a bit if I try to make this again.

  5. I'm a big fan of clam chowder and I love my crock pot. This recipe was a snap to make and its better than anything on the store shelves. The wonderful smell of bacon and onions frying on the stove lingers in the house for hours afterward. Thank you for a great recipe.

Tweaks

  1. I used 4 pieces of turkey bacon, a T of minced garlic, a T of butter and 1/4 of pepper instead of 1/8. Delicious recipe and the first time I am using my crock pot. Thank you!

I hate to bake (almost as much as I hate to vacuum!), and I'll go to great lengths to avoid having to make cookies.
