Made the recipe as stated but substituted one large garden fresh vintage-style "mortgage lifter" tomato. It was very good. My dinner guests loved the pork stew (as they called it). I served it over egg noodles.
This tastes exactly like mom and grandma's Swiss Steak, except we made it in a frying pan with beef steaks. Very delicious! I doubled the recipe and made it for company, who enjoyed it very much! It greatly satisfied a pregnant woman! LOL Thanks! :o)
Super easy and delicious recipie! I served it over brown rice ear an ear of corn and it was a great summer dinner. The chopped celery and onions give the sauce a bit of a crunch, what a great texture! Will definitly make again!
I thought this recipe sounded familiar so I looked in my file and found the exact recipe. I found it in The Taste of Home many years ago. This is one of my favorite and I usually have all the ingredients. The only thing I found wrong with this recipe, is that it makes so much sauce. I usually have the remaining sauce another day.
I loved it! I used a package that had only 3 chops, but they were very thick cuts. I thought it was sweet, yet tangy. yummy yummy! I did something in error tho, but will do it again. Because a lot of other ingredients were 2 tablespoons, I accidentally put in 2 tablespoons of lemon juice as well, instead of just the 1. Maybe that helpd to cut out the sweetness that others didn't like? Definitely going in my cookbook!
WOW! I messed this up and it was still great! I started making this without checking to see if I had all the ingredients first, so I subsituted the stewed tomatoes with some Chili Ready Diced Tomatoes With Onions (I did not know this had chili powder in it but it did), and I left out the Green Pepper and Celery simply because I didn't have them. We ate it over egg noodles. It had some what of a South Western Salsa thing going, but it was really good. I can't wait to try it without messing it up.
My husband and I really enjoyed these chops. They were perfectly done, as were the veggies. While cooking, it had a meatloaf-y smell that was so tempting!
