Playing with this recipe, we've had great success with the following four revisions / additions:
1) Cooking the garlic with the onions to mellow and enrich the garlic.
2) Add some garlic and onion powders to layer those flavors.
3) Swapped the honey for molasses, which made a slightly sweeter, tangier soup.
4) Added some paprika for both the taste and color.
I have had this recipe on my "to cook" list for almost 3 years! I finally got around to it tonight, and it was great! The honey and the nutmeg are a great addition. Without it it would just taste like any other autumn stew. Thanks for sharing!
