Everyone knows you are supposed to eat black-eyed peas for luck on New Years Day. This is a great recipe to use your crock pot. You can use the stove to cook your collards (for money).

These were wonderful! I added everything that the recipe called for plus a chopped up onion. They were even better the next day!. I have found my New Year black eyed pea recipe! Thanks so much for posting!!

Delicious. I eat a lot of black-eyed peas and sausage over rice just using canned peas and add some salsa for spice. These have ruined the canned version for me especially since it is so easy. I do add some smoked sausage during the last couple of hours and serve over rice. I see others add onion so I might try that as I'm making them today.

Man this was good! I'm from Georgia, and I've eaten black-eyed peas all my life. I serve black-eyed peas and champagne every New Year's Eve for good luck, and then have them again as part of the New Year's Day dinner. Being able to just throw this together into a crock pot and not have to worry about it was great. The only thing I did differently was to add a 1/2 cup of pickled jalapenos. Thank for posting.

Made this again this year. this year I used 1 can of hot Rotel and 1 can of diced tomatoes with herbs, plus sliced up a couple of fresh jalapenos and added diced onion. Came out great--spicy just the way we like it!
