This was delicious! I tweaked the recipe though. I added a package of onion soup mix instead of beef stew seasoning, replaced the water with a can of beef stock and threw in a few chopped potatoes. I didn't have Gravy Master, so I just added a cornstarch slurry at the end, mixed it into the stew and turned the crock pot to high for 30 minutes to thicken it up. It was great.

We enjoyed this stew very much! I used onion soup seasoning, added 3 large white potatoes, and scaled the recipe to work with 3 lbs of beef. I also used beef stock instead of water. I couldn't find gravy master so I omitted that. I did also coat the beef in flour and browned it first, and then put it in the crock pot, and then deglazed the pan with a little red wine and beef stock and put that into the crock pot as well. I served the stew in bread bowls, and my 6 year old daughter loved it. I think I'll definitely be making this one again.

So yummy! I've made this several times; it's perfect cold-weather comfort food. Instead of the water, I used 2 1/2 cups beef broth and I also added potatoes.

Great stew. I substituted a can of beef stock for water, added potatoes and used beefy onion soup mix instead of beef stew seasoning, but kept everything else pretty much the same. Wonderful flavor. I would recommend this one any day of the week.

This was SUCH a great recipe! Oh my word. I just started cooking this past year and I have wanted to make a beef stew for awhile. This was my very first one and the recipe made it SO easy and delicious. I did make a few changes. I used just over 2lbs of beef. I DID NOT use the beef stew seasoning or the gravy master or the bouillion cubes (although I may at the cubes the next time). I added 6 potatoes cut up into small bite size chunks. I cooked this in a 6 qt crock pot and added 900 ml of beef broth and about a cup of water. I ended up adding about an extra 1/4 cup of flour a few hours into it in order to thicken it up a bit. Oh and I used 2 garlic cloves, not 1. I cooked it on low for about 7.5/8 hrs. Seriously this was SUCH a great meal and I have tons left over for tomorrow! Highly recommended!

I made yesterday and everybody came back for seconds. To the person that submitted, if you haven't tried it, you should.

I loved this recipe! Like some others I added 6 potatoes and instead of the water I used beef broth and onion soup mix. I also coated the meat in flour and browned in oil first before putting into the crock pot. I saw another recipe that used 1 pop can sized V8 juice so I tossed that in too! I got rave reviews from that family that served as my guinea pigs! Thanks so much for a great recipe!

This will get made again in my crock pot. Here's how I did it: I floured/seasoned and sauted up the beef first; used the whole 1/4 cup of flour; used the whole 2 1/2 lbs of beef and even though I added 1-1/2 potatoes, chopped, and 1 cup of peas, I did not need to add any extra liquid while it cooked. I did substitute 1 14oz. can beef broth for the water - with about 1/4 cup of water only. I used 2 garlic cloves, and 3 stalks of celery. I could not locate Gravy Master, but it was not needed. The broth of this stew was thick and wonderful. Did not need to eat it over anything, just in bowls with large hunks of fresh bread!

Awesome recipe! Though I made a few changes. I added a few potatoes which I cubed. Instead of 1 1/2 cups water I used about 2 cups beef broth. I also added a tablespoon of flour, and I only used 2 lbs of beef. Then 10 hours later I ate nearly half the thing myself. :D

This was a hit with the whole family, and my Husband said this was a keeper! I've been looking for a good recipe for a while now. I too added red potatoes, some extra water (about 1 cup), garlic salt, and more pepper. I added extra carrots and celery till I ran out of room in the crockpot. I didn't know what Gravy Master was, but threw in 1 cube of beef bouillon and it turned out great. The sauce it made was just beautiful! Thank you for posting this recipe!!

I have been searching high and low for a non-tomato-based recipe with lots of flavor, and this one is it! My husband just raved about this and is already looking forward to the leftovers. Here are the changes I made: I reduced the meat to 2 lbs. I decided to follow many other beef stew crock pot recipes, and I dredged the meat in the seasoned flour and briefly sauteed the meat in olive oil before putting it in the crockpot. I reduced the salt to 1 tsp. I increased the garlic to 2 cloves. Lastly, I just had to add 4 medium-sized red skin potatoes, cut into 2 inch pieces. I also used one of those crock pot liners, which made clean up rather simple. I reduced the amount of meat to make room for the potatoes. I would say that this recipe makes about 4-5 realistic servings. I served the stew over Della Gourmet White Basmati Rice (found in many regular grocery stores) and it was YUMMY!

This was easy and very good. I did find it a tad too spicy? Maybe I did something wrong! I will try it again. I did add a bit more water also because I have to have potatoes in my stew. I was happy to find a non-tomato based recipe. I had never heard of tomatoes in beef stew so this was a find! Thanks !

I am definatley making this again! I did add potatoes, since it just isn't stew to me without potatoes. I panfried my meat cubes coated with the seasoning packet, and then deglazed the pan with 1/2 cup of Merlot, and added 1/2 cup beef broth (this replaced the water noted in the recipe.) I couldn't find the Gravy Master at the gorcery store so I don't know how that would have changed the flavor. This recipe is definatley a keeper!

What flavor in a beef stew. I doubled the recipe and added a little more pepper. The recipe was easy to follow and the sauce thickened nicely. I didn't read Wejoe's review before making this recipe. It didn't click with me when making this recipe that potatoes weren't listed in the recipe. My family still enjoyed this but I would suggested adding potatoes when you make this. Thanks for posting.

Best recipe for crockpot stew I've tried! I added little red potatoes with the skins on. Very easy, very tasty. At first I thought there was too much paprika, but the spices came together very well.
