I love my crock pot. It sure makes life easier for me since I started using it. I just wish I had started when I got it. It was a gift from my daughter and her hubby and I let it sit in my pantry for 5 or 6 years before I ever tried to cook in it because I figured I didn't know how to use it. But it is so easy and so convenient. If you have one sitting around, USE IT! You will love it.
- 1 (3 lb) chicken
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1⁄2 cup catsup
- 1⁄2 cup vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon Heinz 57 steak sauce, may use your favorite
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1⁄4 cup mustard
- 1⁄4 cup brown sugar
- Cook chicken in crock pot on low with water for 7 hours.
- Heat remaining ingredients in a pan till boiling.
- Add to chicken and cook 1 hour longer or till chicken is done.
I doubled the recipe for my family. The children ate this like there was not tomorrow..they even had 3rds. No left overs here. Thank You for such a good recipe.
I decided to make this one night when my parents were over for dinner. I cooked 3lbs of chicken breast and poured out the juices and fat. I left some water, maybe about a cup, in the bottom of the crockpot. I made 1 1/2 the sauce and the consistency, with the little water left in the pot, was very good. I had to substitute some Lea and Perrins for the Heinz 57. I thought the dish had a good taste but my family was not as keen. They felt it was too tangy. I'd like to make this again but I was wondering if you had any suggestions for how to tone down the tangyness - just a little. I did make a 'pulled' chicken type of sandwich with the leftovers - pretty good! Thanks.
This recipe was outstanding, and my husband and I made pigs of ourselves eating it. the flavours were delicious. Thanks for posting this recipe. Diane Sth Aust
