VERY nice stew, and so easy to make too! I used baby carrots and just tossed them in whole, apple juice instead of cider, and red wine vinegar instead of cider vinegar; all of these substitutions were made because of ingredients I had on hand. I doubled the apples as suggested, and for the chicken I actualy just cubed up some chicken that was left over from yesterday's supper. Everything came out very tender (even the chicken, which I was afraid would be too dry after essentially being cooked twice), and the taste is absolutely to die for. I think this recipe will definitely be going into a regular rotation here. Thank you for a great recipe!

This was an ok recipe. Pretty bland, needs some more spices or something to shake it up a bit. I really thought the apples would do something to help, but they just kind of melted away.

Good recipe that I will make again and I am very happy to have something new and different in my crock pot repertoire. I found this searching for recipes to use up apple cider I have leftover from the holidays. I did not have the celery or caraway seed on hand. I added 3/4 teaspoon of celery seed. Thanks for sharing!

Good recipe - LOVED the caraway seeds - gave it a very unique flavor. Next time I'll use 2 apples as I didn't taste much apple flavor with just one. Thanks for posting. I'm always looking for quick and easy low-fat recipes.

Loved the caraway seeds. Very flavorful but not overpowering. I didn't precook the chicken and it still turned out great. I also added more apple because they're so good in the stew.

Very Good and "delicate" stew -- not spicy at all. Was very welcoming to come home to after a cold, rainy day. A nice fall dish!

This was delicious! I made some changes based on ingredients on hand. Used chicken broth instead of apple cider, but added some natural applesauce. I also left out the caraway seeds. I made this for 1 serving in my tiny crockpot. I didn't pre-cook the chicken, just threw it all together and it turned out great. Thank you!

I made this several days ago and somehow neglected to post my review. This was a first adventure into the wonderful slowcooking for me. Good instructions were especially welcomed from my rookie viewpoint. As for the dish itself, I really loved the tenderness of the meat and the nice combination of flavors from the tyme to the apple to the caraway. To take a wee bit of the weetness out, I used 1 cup of cider mixed with chicken broth. Was surprised that the apples disolved into the gravy but loved it none the less.

I enjoyed this but my husband felt it was too sweet for a stew (he couldn't reconcile the celery, carrots and potatoes with the sweet flavor). I would like to try making it with a more even ratio of cider to vinegar to give more of a sweet and sour effect.

Excellent stew! Will definitely be made again at our house. I believe there is one typo though. The 1 1/4 cups apple cide vinegar called for should be apple cider. I didn't realize the mistake until I made the recipe and had no cider so I substituted apple juice. I'm not a caraway fan so I subbed celery seed for it. I will use the suggested 2 apples next time. They are the best part of the stew.
