    I like this recipe for the taste and because it all fits into my 4 quart crock pot (packed). After the batch is done, I can them into jars for home use and gifts. To make it easier on myself, I use my spiral apple peeler/corer.

    Ingredients:

    Directions:

    1. 1
      Place apples in slow cooker in thirds, layering sugar between each layer.
    2. 2
      Add rest of ingredients on top and pack them down as well as you can.
    3. 3
      Cover and cook on high for 1 hour.
    4. 4
      Reduce heat to low. Open and give it a stir. Keep covered and cook 8 hours or until thick and dark brown, stirring occasionally. (You can do this overnight and can in the morning).

      Uncover and cook for the last hour on low.

      If a smoother apple butter is desired, you may puree in blender or food mill.

      Place in sterile jars with lids and process for 10 minutes in hot water bath or you can freeze.

      Fantastic! I bought nine pounds of organic apples for $2.00 and was looking for something easy to do with them. Took Pam's advice and used the apple slicer which made prep incredibly easy. Used my 5 quart crock pot and simmered as directed. It is worth storing a crock pot just for this recipe. I had an incredibly busy day, but was able to make this apple butter on top of grocery shopping, my son's birthday party, baseball practice and dinner out. Fills the house with such a wonderful scent while cooking! Used my hand blender directly in the crock pot which I highly recommend as it is so much easier than running through a food mill or food processor. Yield is right on and the jars are just gorgeous for gift giving. A sweet treat on baked goods or to use in cooking. I've already had requests for more. Thanks so much for a great recipe!

      I made this almost exact. Except I got a late start and cooked on high for 3.5 hours, then low for a half an hour. Used an electric hand mixer in the crock to blend. Canned it. And it came out delicious! Looks gorgeous too. Thanks!

      Delicious! I let this simmer in my crockpot over night and most of the day the next day. The more it simmered the better it got. This is a keeper! I did had alittle more spice to mine with adding alittle allspice and a bit more cloves. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
