Crispy Churros Using Bisquick

I found this recipe while waiting for surgery. They're quick and most everyone can get their hands on Bisquick or make some from a recipe here. They'll go great as a dipper with some sweet fondue.

This was pretty good. I voted somewhere between liked and loved, so I opted for the higher star/rating. They are very easy to make, of course. I wasn't sure how hot to have the oil, so the first batch was well done on the outside and not done on the inside. I ended up setting the temp at 300 and they turned out much better. These are good for a quick sugar fix and do taste very similar to a churro, only with a dry, crispy outside.

  1. In a 4 quart heavy saucepan, heat the oil until a thermometer reaches 360 degrees.
  2. In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients (except the 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon - mix that in a small bowl and set aside).
  3. Stir in the milk, vanilla, and egg. Drop a tablespoonful of batter into the hot oil, frying just until golden.
  4. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle the hot churros with the cinnamon/sugar mixture.
  5. Serve as-is or drizzled with chocolate, caramel, or with ice cream.
