Make your own chips without the fat! I got this recipe from the American Diabetes Association's website.

I get the basic idea, and followed the recipe to a T, but it still turned out pretty blah. I used yellow corn tortillas (homemade from a bag of "masa harina de maiz"), and baked them for the full 8 minutes, and they turned out only slightly crispy. Worse yet, the next day the leftovers were more like stale tortilla wedges instead of chips. My tortillas might have been a little thicker than store-bought ones, but I wouldn't think that would make such a dramatic difference. This is an interesting idea, but it needs a lot of work, as far as I can tell.


  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Dip each tortilla quickly in water (this helps to crisp the chip). Stack the tortillas on top of each other. Cut the stack into 8 traiangles. Lay the triangles on a nonstick cookie sheet. Sprinkle the chips with chili powder. Bake in the oven for 5-8 minutes until crisp.
