i was surprised how well this recipe went over with the family. the men in my family usually like a bite to their slaw hence i usually add some horseradish. well the females in my family are partial to a sweeter slaw. so when i saw the ingredients for this recipe i thought i would try it. an lo and behold my brothers even praised the taste; adding the pickle juice was just right to please all. i had served this with stuffed shells and green beans and my family (i think there was 17 of us there) said it was a great meal.
Thanks for sharing this family recipe. I had my family over for Thanksgiving and wanted a different tasting coleslaw. Everyone just loved this coleslaw. I believe the pickle juice is the secret ingredient. A wonderful new addition to my cookbook.
I made this for a family barbecue and everyone loved it. Very easy too!
Love this dressing but to kick it up a notch add some horse radish sauce...experiment and add to taste. For the recipe above I'd add a full tablespoon...yummy
Summer 2011: I don't really like coleslaw but this is wonderful and the longer it sits the better it gets.
Summer 2012: I had a craving for sweet and hot and needed to do something with the head of letuce that came in the bountiful basket. I added 1/4 C. honey and 1 tsp. pepper to this recipe, I didn't think it could get any better the first time that I made it last year. The honey and pepper really did it for me, put it over the top!
FABULOUS!!! I have been looking for a compromise 'slaw for a LONG time. Some like it tart, others sweet. I used Miracle Whip in place of the mayo (family preference and less calories to boot!), added about 1/8 tsp of apple vinegar. We also have an onion allergy so we substituted celery salt. Can't wait to have it with the pulled pork in the crock pot!!!
A very good coleslaw recipe. I omitted the radishes, didn't have any. Personal preference, didn't use celery or green pepper, but I might next time. The dressing was very good, added a sprinkle of celery seed. And, yes, it gets better the next day or two. Tara, thanks for posting.......Janet
What a fantastic recipe! I don't plan on buying store bought dressing again - this was excellent!
This tasted great although I left out the radishes, celery and onion and added sugar to taste. It was creamy and the pickle juice gave it a wonderful flavor. I just came back to add that as this sits it just gets better and my two year old is eating this like it's dessert and insisted that I give her my portion from my plate to her as well.
This is an excellent coleslaw. The pickle juice really makes this recipe. The recipe is easy to follow and one in which the actual cabbage mix ingredients can be added to or omitted from depending on your taste. This recipe goes straight into my favourites cookbook.
