This couldn't be more simple or delicious! Yum. At first when all the berries popped, it was still a bit runny for my liking... I simply boiled until it reached the jelly-like thickness that I prefer... There will never be canned cranberry sauce in this home again!
Forget the water; use 1 cup fresh-squeezed OJ, some zest, sub brown sugar for white, and toss in a bit of Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur for a truly special sauce! Basic recipe is really good, but tweakin' never hurt a thing!
I made this for my mom for Christmas since she loves cranberry sauce. I used 1/2 cup orange juice and 1/2 cup water and she thpught it was great. It set up perfectly and was very easy to make. Thanks for posting!
Better than any store-bought cranberry sauce, and just about as easy! Excellent!
Good simple cranberry sauce. The orange juice adds a lot of flavor and shouldn't be skipped. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
This was a really nice sauce. It was tasty and a great accompaniment to the turkey at Thanksgiving. My kids thought it was too tart or tangy and didn't enjoy it but the adults really liked it. Next time I would take half out when finished and make half with a bit more sugar for the kids' table. The OJ is a good addition. Simple and quick to make ahead. Definitely try it for an easy and fun accompaniment. Thanks for posting Karen From Colorado. Enjoy! ChefDLH
Made this last year for Thanksgiving but never reviewed it ~ I will never buy canned sauce again ~ made a double batch this year and put some in the freezer. I did need to add a little more sugar than the recipe called for but all in all it was great. Thanks for posting.
Love this! I made it earlier today so it would be ready for tomorrow's Thanksgiving dinner. I doubled the recipe as we have a large crowd. I used one cup OJ, one cup water, and 2 cups sugar, plus I threw in a cinnamon stick. When it was done simmering and the berries had popped, I took a small bowl to the teenagers for them to try it out, and they were fighting over the bowl! I always get canned cranberry sauce every year, and I'm amazed at how easy & great this really is! No more canned sauce for us! This is being added to our Thanksgiving dinner every year!
Ive made this before but I also added orange zest and a little nutmeg at the end, like a pinch. Really makes a big difference.
I first tried this same recipe a few years ago as well. The canned stuff will never cross my doorstep again! For anyone with doubts, please just try it - it is SO simple & really does only take a few minutes. You don't have to be an experienced cook to make it successfully either. I add sugar to taste, starting with 1/2 a cup & increasing as needed. I've also made it using half sugar, half Splenda. The orange juice really does add a very nice flavor, in place of water. Although I don't recall how much, I also add a little ground cinnamon. Everyone loves cranberries now! I've read reviews where some cooks double the batch & save some for an ice cream topping.
