From the Food Network - am going to make some for some Christmas gifts. Will let you know once it's done! The cooking time includes the time the mixture needs to settle. You can use frozen cranberries also.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Place cranberries, sugar and vanilla in a medium saucepan. Place pan over medium heat and stir. Simmer cranberry mixture until the berries burst, about 5 to 6 minutes.
  2. Place orange peels in a large glass container with an airtight lid, or large mason jars with lids. Pour vodka over the orange peels.
  3. Allow the cranberry mixture to cool. Pour the cooled mixture into the glass container(s). Cover tightly and set aside for 1 week. After 1 week, strain out the cranberries sand orange peels and pour mixture into a clean bottle, using a funnel. Store vodka in the refrigerator.
  4. To serve: Pour 2 ounces of vodka mixture over ice in a tall glass and top with tonic water. Garnish with a slice of lime.

Very nice! Easy to make and comes out tasting good. We mixed it with Sprite and I think it would be good with a number of different mixers. It ends up a deep, jewel-like red. Very beautiful in the decanter. 2 notes: I may try more sugar in the batch next time for a more cordial-like effect. And I've noticed before that the rind from naval oranges is more bitter and less flavorful than the rind from the juice oranges that are available later in the season. Mine, made with the peel of naval oranges had a hint of the orange-peel bitterness so probably better to get juice oranges if you can.

I made this over the Christmas Holidays and it was great! Very simple to make. I also gave it away as gifts to family and friends. I'm going to make it again this summer to sip on during those hot days!
