ingredients
- 473.18 ml all-purpose flour
- 49.29 ml sugar, divided
- 22.18 ml grated orange peel
- 9.85 ml baking powder
- 2.46 ml salt
- 1.23 ml baking soda
- 78.78 ml cold butter
- 118.29 ml dried cranberries
- 118.29 ml cranberries, chopped if desired
- 59.14 ml orange juice
- 59.14 ml milk or 59.14 ml half-and-half cream
- 1 egg
- 14.79 ml milk

GLAZE
- 118.29 ml confectioners' sugar
- 14.79 ml orange juice

ORANGE BUTTER
- 118.29 ml butter, softened
- 14.79 ml grated orange peel
- 7.39 ml orange juice
directions
- In a bowl, combine flour,7 teaspoons sugar, orange peel, baking powder, salt and baking soda.
- Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; set aside.
- In a small bowl, combine dried and fresh cranberries, orange juice, cream and egg.
- Add to flour mixture and stir until a soft dough forms.
- On a floured surface, gently knead 6-8 times.
- Pat dough into an 8" circle.
- Cut into 10 wedges.
- Separate wedges and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Brush with the 1 tablespoon of milk; sprinkle with remaining sugar.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Combine glaze ingredients if desired; drizzle over scones.
- Combine orange butter ingredients; serve with warm scones.

I don't claim to be able to find all the recipes here that include cranberries & oranges, but when one slaps me in the face, I usually pay attention, as I did with this one! I was generous with the orange zest in the scones & also included a bit of minced zest in the glaze as well ~ ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE FLAVOR OF THESE BERRIES & ORANGES together, & I think the combo of both the dried & fresh cranberries added a very tasty touch! A wonderful keeper of a recipe! [Tagged, made & reviewed for one of my groupmates in the Aus/NZ Recipe Swap #36]

My favorite cookbook is not one that I cook with very often, it actually sits on top of my pantry propped up in an old basket. The cookbook was given to my grandmother just prior to her marriage to my grandfather and it has the family prayer and some recipes that my great-grandmother penned in her own hand inside. It is called All About Home Baking.
