My family loved this recipie! I was informed that I had to make this again. I think next time I might use some pizza sauce instead of tomato paste and Italian sausage instead of pork to add some more flavor. Yum!

The first time I make this I was in high school (1976). It became one of my dad's favorites. He was a meat, potatoe and bread guy and he did not like cassaroles but he LOVED this. Lost my recipe, so glad I find this again. The sesame seeds on the top make the dish, I have made with and without. I have also made without sausage and doubled the ground beef. I can not wait to make tonight for the hubby.

I made this recipe last night and was amazed at how easy it was. Took me about 15 minutes to put it all together and then the 25 minutes in the oven. I accidentally added too much basil (I think I put a tablespoon in!) and it still came out tasting great. One warning if you are a two-person household: It produced a TON of leftovers (you get 6 huge slices, easy) so for me and DH, I'm not sure we're going to finish it all...
