    These cookies were my favorites when I was growing up. My mom would have cookies waiting for me after I'd get home from school. These are now a big hit with my family, and my husband likes them so much that he learned how to make them himself so he doesn't have to wait on me!

      Blend sugars, shortening, and eggs.

      Mix flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder then add to sugar mixture.

      Add vanilla.
    4. 4
      Stir in chocolate chips. Mix well.
    5. 5
      Add oatmeal.
    6. 6
      Drop by teaspoon onto baking sheets.
    7. 7
      Bake at 375 degrees for 9 - 10 minutes.

      These cookies taste great! The only problem I found was that in the recipe there is no where to add the salt. I just guessed, they turned out great anyway! Will make again!

      This makes a LOT of cookies. I got 83 cookies, normal size, not tiny. My colleagues were thrilled. Some of their comments: soft and chewy, nice taste of brown sugar, a pity the chocolate taste is not predominant, they melt in your mouth. Personally I liked the cookies very much. They are soft and chewy right out of the oven and they stay that way. Easy to make. Made for PAC Spring '08. Thanks for posting.
