This is green bean heaven! We love the combination of ham and green beans. Adding onions and garlic and cooking them in a small amount of liquid and butter is sensational. The only thing I would do different, is to serve this as a main course and the only course !!! Thanks, Inez.
This was so easy to make, yet very elagant to serve at a formal dinner. The only change, I used frozen green beans. I will be making this alot.
My family rates this six thumbs up! I used bacon instead of ham and added some extra black pepper before serving. Delicious. I kept it simmering for an extra hour by adding more water when it needed it. Thanks for posting this keeper.
I often make green beans and ham, but never thought to add butter. It really adds a new dimension and it was buttery deliciousness.
This exact recipe is on Allrecipes.com. Several of the comments there recommended that chicken broth should be substituted for the water the recipe calls for. I took their advice and the results were great. My son says that these are the best green beans he's ever had in all his 33 years.
My bf loved these and so did I! This is a very forgiving recipe. Not only did I not measure anything, just threw in what I had, I also kept on low for about 10 minutes extra because my pork cops took longer than I planned. They were so tasty and easy. I left out the onion because of personal preference. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing - I've had beans cooked similar to this (using bacon) but the ham is such a great idea - LESS FAT - and the garlic really adds a nice kick! Thanks again - I am fixing for our Christmas dinner.
Oh so good! Used frozen whole green beans which worked well. I always have ham in the freezer, but rarely bacon, so this recipe was a great find. Great flavor of Southern green beans, with no need to simmer all day. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
I was looking for a way to use up ham. This worked--little did I know how delicious the green bean recipe would actually be. This will be made again for regular and company meals.
