Coney Island Chili Dog Sauce

"After countless searches for a good Coney Island sauce, I stumbled on this one at another cooking website. Most recipes I had tried were just too sweet, this is a good Midwest-style Coney sauce. I didn't follow the measurements to the letter - just eyeballed it; and I added a couple dashes of hot sauce to kick up the heat a bit."

 1. That photo does not look anything like a CONEY ISLAND CHILI..... I wonder if the writer actually has tasted the genuine article ???? We live in the Detroit Mi area and believe me WE KNOW CONEY CHILI

 2. This was awesome coney sauce! We added a can of kidney beans because DH loves beans in coney sauce. This went really well with the hotdogs and fritos! Thanks for a keeper!

 3. This was great! I omitted the sugar because I knew we didn't like things too sweet and I think it was the perfect amount of spice and flavor without the sugar. Was great on hotdogs with some homemade cheddar cheese sauce!

Tweaks

 1. A spicy, meaty, wonderful sauce that has made look forward to Hotdog night. I did drain some of the grease and substitute the tomato paste for ketchup though and, after the addition of the water, let it boil down for about 45 minutes. A favorite in my house for sure.

 2. Great flavor. Used ketchup instead of tomato paste (we were out) and no sugar because matchup has a lot of sugar. That was the only mod.

P.S. I posted the photo with the two dogs and the spinach in the background.

 3. This was very good! I used ingredients on hand so used ground sirloin, substituted 3 additional Tablespoon of dried onions for the fresh ones, added a can of chili beans, and did as another reviewer suggested and added a little beef broth a few times and let it continue to simmer and reduce down. I will make this again!

 4. I used 3 tbsp better than bullion beef and 3 cups boiling water I used 1/2 tbsp dry mustard rather than yellow prepared I swapped Bragg's Amino Acid for Worcestershire I used 2 tbsp fresh ground ancho chile pepper in addition to 2 tbsp traditional chili powder I bloomed the spices and cooked the rawness out of the tomato paste before simmering for an hour.

 5. . I introduced a TBS of Red Hot some additional Chilli Powder and Red Pepper Flake and it made all the difference.
