Coca-Cola Baked Beans

"Add a little extra "zing" to your baked beans with Coca-Cola. This recipe is from "The Glory of Southern Cooking" by James Villas."

• Serves: 6

ingredients

• 2 (15 ounce) cans baked beans with pork sausage
• 1 medium onion, finely chopped
• 1 cup loosely packed light brown sugar
• 1⁄2 cup ketchup
• 1⁄2 cup Coca-Cola
• 2 teaspoons dry mustard
• salt & freshly ground black pepper
• 6 slices bacon

directions

1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
2. In a large bowl, combine the beans, onion, sugar, ketchup, Coke, dry mustard, and salt and pepper; stir till well blended. Scrape the mixture into a large, shallow baking dish.
3. Drape the bacon slices evenly over the top and bake uncovered till the bacon is thoroughly cooked and the beans are bubbling, 1 to 1 1/4 hours.

Made this w/the additions of cooked ground beef & Turkey that added more substance so the guys can eat on this for days! They had it w/ tortilla chips as a dip or filled Hawaiian rolls as sliders :)

It's been a while since I made these but they are one of my favorite baked bean recipes. I make them in the crockpot.

These are so good. I recently made these for a bbq dinner we were serving at my family's house. I love the zip the mustard adds to the beans, along with the unique flavor the coke adds and lets not forget the bacon! These are so much better than just opening up a can of beans. I am making these again this evening to go with some ribs that we are having for dinner. They are going to be a part of my regular rotation now. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
