Coburn's Chai Tea Mix

"My niece gave me this recipe a couple of months ago and I'm hooked on it. Feel free to vary the amounts of spices according to what flavours you like. Great way to start the morning :-)."

  • Bring everything to a hard boil, then turn it off and let steep for a couple of hours. Transfer to the fridge. When ready to enjoy, strain mixture into a mug, add low fat milk or vanilla flavoured soya milk(preferred) in a 1:1 ratio and heat in the microwave or stovetop. Add extra honey of desired.
  • If you like chai tea you will love this,at a fraction of the cost of buying premade mixes.

  1. This is an excellent Chai Tea recipe! I did not use cardamon pods as I didn't have any on hand. I put all the spices except the cinnamon stick and ginger in a stainless steel steeper for ease. I also used brown sugar instead of honey and found it to be plenty sweet for my taste. The tea is wonderfully spicy and strong so I enjoyed the half tea/half milk ratio. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Wow, a lovely robust spicy tea!!! I made this using rooibos tea bags, exactly as recipe, it is now steeping in the fridge for me to enjoy in the next day or two! I very much enjoyed the cup I tried, though, but I must confess to not adding milk to make it a chai mix, I don't enjoy milk in my tea, but I could see that the tea part of this recipe was too good to miss! Others might prefer to add some sugar or honey, but I dont have a sweet tooth, for me this was just marvellous! Thank you, Jan, made for My 3 Chefs, November 2009
