Absolutely amazing! My father even loves it and he is an extremely hard person to please. I did what someone else suggested and used a 24 oz. jar of tomato sauce and added an 8 oz can of tomato paste. I didn't have garlic cloves so I used 1 TBS. of garlic powder, I would have used more but my father doesn't like too much garlic. This dish makes plenty and everyone had seconds on the first and second day.
This recipe is more than the sum of its parts. The ingredients are few and simple and the result is wonderful. I used penne rigate and Costco's Kirkland Marinara sauce is 32 oz so it worked out perfectly. I've made it many times and once I upped the quantity of meat and it didn't taste as good. The proportions in the recipe are perfect!
When re-heating the next day, I add a splash of milk to keep it from drying out in the microwave and it works perfectly. Just a Tbl or so per serving.
I should've thanked you long ago for posting this, we've had it many times.
I enjoyed this recipe. It was very easy to prepare. I was surprised by the addition of chicken broth. I think it gave the "prepared sauce" more of a home made flavor. The recipe makes a big dish of food so it's great for feeding a crowd. I used ground sirloin instead of hamburger and added a little olive oil to cook the sirloin and the onions.
Loved how easy this recipe was, the whole hive ate it up!! I did add some sliced baby bellas to the meat mixture and also added a couple pinches of basil when adding the oregano.......next time i think i will use a meat mixture of 1/2 ground chuck 1/2 italian sausage and maybe add a few red pepper flakes......we'll see how that flies and report back, but as of today, it's a keeper!
So good! Another go to dinner when I don't know what to make!
Easy and delicious! Thanks.
Meh. It was good. I was just hoping for a little more of a wow factor.
My family of picky eaters all loved this!
