My neighbor brought me this cake as a gift. I could not stop eating it, it is DELICIOUS! She had poured some Amaretto over the top before wrapping it, enhanced the almond flavor. I immediately looked up the name and found this recipe so I can make more. My husband is upset that I'm eating the whole thing! So will bake him another one. My neighbor had made several of them and frozen them to use or gift when needed. I think I will do the same. Thank you for posting this recipe.

I've been searching for this recipe for a couple of years- THANK YOU for posting! I believe the recipe was called "bread" not "cake," I think because it's not quite as sweet or as soft/moist as one would consider cake. Nevertheless, my feedback: AWESOME! A little time-consuming but SO worth it, especially for special occasion or gift. NOTE: use salted (sweet) butter, or else add some salt. I substituted chopped maraschino cherries and some of the juice and Craisins cut in half- at the time I couldn't find the dried baking fruit in the store, so I improvised- and it was so yummy, I always make it that way! Slice, butter, and toast in toaster oven or under broiler for indulgent breakfast. Next time I'm going to try to make "biscotti" by making shallow loaves, slicing, and rebaking... we'll see how it turns out!
