Cleaned out the pantry and this is what I came up with. My kids love anything with cinnamon sugar and really enjoyed this.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 12 cup butter, melted
  • 15 cups Life Cereal or 15 cups cinnamon Life Cereal
  • 4 cups pretzel twists or 4 cups pretzel sticks
  • 12 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon (yes, tablespoons)
  • 1 12 cups dried apples, chopped
  • 2 cups raisins or 2 cups dried sweetened cranberries

Directions

  1. In a very large bowl, combine the cereal and pretzels.
  2. Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  3. Drizzle the cereal mixture with butter; toss.
  4. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture; toss well.
  5. Put in a large roasting pan and bake at 250 degrees for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven, stir in dried fruits.
  7. Cool and store in an airtight container.

This is baking right now and it smells great also tried some before it went in and it was good too. I did a half batch and used plain Corn Chex and O cereal because it's what I had on hand and also used two cookie sheets instead of a roaster. I did have to cut back on the cinnamon a bit because we thought the sugar mix was getting a bit strong. Four stars stars since I needed to alter the seasoning but I think if you like cinnamon a lot the original would be good for you.

This is a great recipe, but I think it could be made even better with some minor adjustments. When I make this again, and I will, I plan to use an even mixture of Chex, Kix, and Honey Comb cereals, along with some pecan or walnut pieces, and I will boost the amounts of butter and the cinnamon-sugar coating by half as I didn't think there was quite enough. I did not use a roasting pan, but spread the mixture out on two cookie sheets and baked for 45 minutes, rotating sheets after 20 minutes or so and only stirring a couple of times. Overall, this is a great recipe and I'm glad you shared it. When I make this again with the adjustments I mentioned, I promise I will update my review to tell whether or not the flavor is exactly where I want it to be.
