I have been making these cookies for years. I don't remember where I got the recipe from originally but it's a Christmas cookie tray staple in our house. It's my son's favorite and he has been known to eat the whole batch at one sitting!

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Heat oven to 300º.
  2. Beat butter until creamy.
  3. Sift together 3/4 cup confectioner's sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  4. Gradually add to butter. Blend well.
  5. Stir in oats. Blend in vanilla and nuts.
  6. Mix well about 5 minutes.
  7. Shape to form small balls.
  8. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 25 minutes. Remove from sheets.
  9. While hot sprinkle with 1/2 remaining sugar. Cool and sprinkle again.

What a pretty little cookie! I made these as directed except for the nutmeg, I'm not crazy about nutmeg. I am so glad I tried these! I rolled the finished cookie in a powdered sugar/cinnamon mixute and they were a hit! Thanks for sharing!

These are great. I made it according to the recipe, with a few exceptions. First, I *thought* I had nutmeg in my pantry, turned out I didn't so I subbed "pumpkin pie spice". Worked well. Secondly, I doubled the recipe, which, with my making the balls/pre-baked cookies the size of walnuts, only made about 5 1/2 dozen (the recipe stated that one batch would make 4 dozen) I must have made them too big. And lastly, I used pecans rather than walnuts, just for personal taste. Anyway, these are great. Prefectly crisp and buttery, with the spicy and nutty taste that definately speaks of the holidays. Thanks for sharing!
